Cookies Policy
Last updated: 16 May 2026 Status: Draft pending founder sign-off.
This page describes the cookies and similar technologies the Tahawi Institute website uses, what each one does, and how you can change your preferences. It complements our Privacy Policy.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Cookies allow the site to remember your preferences (such as your consent choice on this site) and, where you have consented, help us understand how the site is used.
We only set non-essential cookies once you have given consent through the banner that appears on your first visit.
Categories we use
We group cookies into three categories. Necessary cookies are always set; analytics and marketing cookies only run when you have explicitly accepted them.
Necessary
These cookies are required for the site to function. You cannot opt out of them.
| Cookie | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
tahawi_consent |
Records your cookie-banner choice so we do not ask again on every visit. | 12 months |
Analytics (optional)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site in aggregate. We only load these when you have accepted analytics cookies.
| Cookie | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
_ga |
Distinguishes anonymous visitors. | 2 years |
_ga_<container-id> |
Persists analytics session state. | 2 years |
We have configured Google Analytics with IP anonymisation and consent-mode v2 default-denied, so no analytics data is collected before you opt in.
Marketing
We do not currently set marketing cookies. If we add any in the future, this page will be updated and you will be asked again through the cookie banner.
Managing your preferences
You can change your preferences at any time:
- On this site — open the cookie preferences from the link at the foot of any page (or clear your cookies for tahawi.org and reload — the banner will reappear).
- In your browser — most modern browsers let you block or delete cookies. Doing so for this site will not break navigation, but it may reset your preference and re-show the banner.
- For Google Analytics specifically — install Google’s official opt-out browser add-on to refuse GA on every site you visit.
Third-party services
When you use the contact form, the page loads a single script from Cloudflare Turnstile to verify that you are not an automated submitter. Turnstile is privacy-friendly and does not set tracking cookies; it may set a short-lived first-party cookie scoped to its widget.
Changes
If we add, remove, or change cookies, we will update this page and reset existing consent where the change is material.
